Help Wanted

PACESETTER BOARD POSITION OPEN - TRAINING RUNS

image not found

We are looking for a member to become our Saturday morning Community First Fox Cities Marathon weekly Training Runs coordinator. Tasks include coordinating these runs, assuring we have volunteers to help with each run, and distributing course routes each week. Ideally we would like to find one individual to take responsibility for all of these tasks. If you are able to do this, or would like to know more details about it, or are willing to help out with some of this, please let us know. It is an important need for us starting next May 2023.

ASK A MEMBER

We are interested in your ideas for topics that we can share information about. Please submit a question you would like to hear other members give their personal input on to mblise@new.rr.com. For example, now that winter is approaching, this month's question:

What do you do to prepare yourself for running in the cold winter?

We will publish some of your comments in our next newsletter.

WORLD RECORD CONSECUTIVE HALF MARATHONS

image not found

Congratulations to Helen Ryvar of Wales, United Kingdom who broke the World Record for running a half marathon distance the most consecutive days. Last year she set the previous record running 13.1 miles on 111 consecutive days. This year starting May 1st, she set herself a new goal of 150 days which she achieved on 9/27/2022. She decided to continue, increasing her goal to 180, then after reaching that she increased that goal to 222, which would double her old record. As of 11/1/2022, she has run a half marathon on 185 consecutive days. She believes she has accumulated about 7.5 million steps over the past 6 months. If you'd like to see more with her inspirational comments, visit her Facebook page where she posts her completed routes with pictures and comments every day. https://www.facebook.com/helenryvar

ST. JOE'S 5K RUN/WALK SUMMARY

image not found

On a cool fall morning on Saturday October 8, the 29th annual St. Joe's 5k run/walk took place. There were about 200 participants and we raised about $10,000 for St Joes Food Program. Our excellent sponsors include Pierce, Nicolet Bank, Essity, Bergstrom, Fox Community CU, Thedacare, Faith Technologies, Gustman, and Capital CU. Festival food and Great Harvest provided all the food and Fast Signs provided all printing free. We had fantastic volunteers at Friday packet pickup and course set up, and race day course marshalls, post race food setup and many other things. Big thanks to announcer Dean Peterson and race starter Ned Hughes. Please join us for the 30th annual run walk in October 2023. Thanks to all who participated and volunteered!

TRAINING RUNS

If you are looking for a group to run with, consider any of these options:

  • Saturday mornings at 8 am at the Copper Rock coffee shop located at 210 W. College Ave., Appleton. A group of us run from there between October and May, even when it gets cold and/or snowy. It's a great way to motivate yourself to get your miles in during the off season. The routes are in the 4-10 mile range, with several distance options. Some extend it to a half marathon distance. Near mile 4 there is a water stop at the home of one of our generous longtime members, John Ebel. Afterwards, many stop in for a coffee or hot chocolate.
  • Saturday mornings at 8 am at the Plaza, downtown Neenah, followed by coffee.
  • Tuesday evenings at 6 pm at Mr Brews Taphouse, 201 Riverheath Way, Appleton, followed by food and drink.
